Who we are

Soft Play Scout is a UK-based directory of soft play centres operated by an individual sole trader. For the purposes of UK GDPR, we are the data controller. You can reach us at hello@softplayscout.co.uk.

What we collect

We try to collect as little personal data as possible. Specifically:

  • Visit data — your IP address (truncated for analytics), the pages you view, your approximate location (country/region only), browser type, and referrer. Used to understand how the site is used and to improve it.
  • Cookies — small text files stored on your device. We use a tiny number of essential cookies and (with your consent) analytics and advertising cookies. See the Cookies section below.
  • Information you provide — if you contact us, submit a venue, or claim a listing, we collect what you send (name, email, business details). Used only to respond to your request and operate the service.

We do not collect special category data, payment information (we don’t process payments), or any data about children.

Cookies

On your first visit you’ll see a cookie banner. You can accept all, reject non-essential, or customise your choices. Your preference is remembered for 12 months.

Essential cookies (always on)

  • Session and CSRF cookies for sign-in (only set if you use the dashboard).
  • A small cookie that remembers your cookie-consent choice itself.

Analytics cookies (with your consent)

We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation to count visitors and see which pages are useful. Data is processed by Google in the EU/US under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can opt out via the cookie banner or by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising cookies (with your consent)

This site is monetised by Mediavine, which operates a Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF v2.2) consent management platform. When you arrive from the EU/UK, you will see Mediavine’s consent panel and can grant or deny consent for advertising vendors. Mediavine maintains a full list of vendors and their privacy policies — see Mediavine’s Privacy Policy and DSAR portal. You can change or withdraw consent at any time via the “Manage Cookie Preferences” link in our footer.

Lawful basis

Under UK GDPR Article 6, we rely on the following lawful bases:

  • Legitimate interest — for essential cookies and basic visit logs (necessary to run the site securely).
  • Consent — for analytics and advertising cookies. You give consent via the cookie banner and can withdraw it at any time.
  • Contract / pre-contract — when you submit a venue, claim a listing, or contact us, we process the data you provide to deliver the service you’ve asked for.

Sub-processors

We use a small number of third-party providers to operate the site. They process data on our behalf under contract.

  • Vercel (hosting) — processes HTTP request logs.
  • Supabase (database, EU region) — stores venue data and any account information.
  • Google Analytics (with your consent) — aggregate visit metrics.
  • Mediavine (with your consent) — advertising. Mediavine works with multiple downstream vendors; full list available via their CMP.
  • postcodes.io — open-source UK postcode lookup run by Ideal Postcodes. Postcode lookups happen server-side and don’t carry visitor identifiers.

How long we keep your data

  • Visit logs — 30 days (Vercel) and 14 months (Google Analytics, the GA4 default).
  • Contact-form messages — kept until your request is resolved, then up to 12 months for follow-up.
  • Venue submissions and claims — kept while the venue is published; deleted on request.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Ask what data we hold about you (subject access request).
  • Have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Have your data deleted (right to erasure).
  • Object to processing or withdraw consent.
  • Get a portable copy of any data you’ve given us.
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you think we’ve mishandled your data.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@softplayscout.co.uk. We aim to respond within 30 days.

Venue owners

If you own a venue listed on this site and would like to update, claim, or remove your listing, please email hello@softplayscout.co.uk with the venue name, postcode, and your relationship to the business. We treat removal requests as a priority and aim to action them within 7 days.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top and, where appropriate, surface a banner on the homepage. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept them.
